[00:00:03]
MAYBE YOU WENT OUT WITH JASON.
[ CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL]
OKAY. ALL RIGHT, EVERYBODY, WE'LL CALL THE MEETING TO ORDER.PLEASE STAND FOR THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.
PLEASE BE SEATED. APPROVAL OF AGENDA.
[ APPROVAL OF AGENDA]
COUNCILWOMAN. SO MOVED.[ Resolution No. 2024-075: Relating to Elections; declaring and adopting the results of the Town of Marana primary election held on July 30, 2024; certifying the facts requiring an automatic recount of the July 30, 2024 election to the Pima County Superior Court; authorizing the filing of a petition in Pima County Superior Court for an order requiring the recount (David L. Udall and Jane Fairall)]
ITEM A1. ITEM A1 RESOLUTION NUMBER 2024-075 RELATING TO ELECTIONS.DECLARING AND ADOPTING THE RESULTS OF THE TOWN OF MARANA, PRIMARY ELECTION HELD ON JULY 30TH, 2024, CERTIFYING THE FACTS REQUIRING AN AUTOMATIC RECOUNT OF THE JULY 30TH, 2024 ELECTION TO THE PIMA COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT AND AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF A PETITION IN PIMA COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT FOR AN ORDER REQUIRING THE RECOUNT.
AND MR. MAYOR, VICE MAYOR, MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL.
REGARDING THE SECOND COUNCIL MEMBER OFFICE BECAUSE THE MARGIN OF VOTES CAST BETWEEN ROXANNE ZIEGLER AND MELISSA IS WITHIN ONE HALF OF 1% OF THE TOTAL NUMBER OF VOTES CAST FOR BOTH CANDIDATES FOR THAT SEAT.
ARIZONA LAW REQUIRES AN AUTOMATIC RECOUNT.
STAFF RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THIS ITEM.
AND WITH THAT, I'D BE HAPPY TO TAKE ANY QUESTIONS.
SECOND. MOTION TO APPROVE AND SECONDED.
[ Relating to Parks and Recreation; presentation, discussion and possible action regarding proposed fees for use of the Marana Community and Aquatic Center. ]
ITEM D ONE. ITEM D 1, RELATING TO PARKS AND RECREATION, PRESENTATION, DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING PROPOSED FEES FOR THE USE OF THE MARANA COMMUNITY AND AQUATIC CENTER.MR. MAYOR, VICE MAYOR, MEMBERS OF COUNCIL.
TODAY IS A STUDY SESSION TO TALK ABOUT A FEE SCHEDULE AND FEES FOR THE COMMUNITY AND AQUATIC CENTER.
OUR STAFF HERE AT THE PARKS AND REC LEADERSHIP TEAM, I TOLD THEM THE OTHER DAY, I THINK THEY'RE PROBABLY THE BEST PARKS AND REC LEADERSHIP TEAM IN THE STATE OF ARIZONA.
AND I WILL TELL YOU THAT THE PRESENTATION THAT THEY PUT TOGETHER TODAY, I THINK, REALLY ILLUSTRATES THE LEVEL OF PROFESSIONALISM AND WORK THAT THEY DO DAY IN AND DAY OUT. SO THEY'RE GOING TO KIND OF WALK US THROUGH THIS WHOLE THING.
AND THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO KIND OF SEE WHERE WE TOOK A LOT OF THE FEEDBACK THAT WE GOT FROM COUNCIL AT VARIOUS PRESENTATIONS AND DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE COMMUNITY CENTER MAKING IT AFFORDABLE FOR OUR RESIDENTS.
AND I THINK THAT YOU'LL SEE THAT HOPEFULLY THAT WE HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD WITH THAT.
AND WE TALKED ABOUT VARIOUS JURISDICTIONS AND THE AMOUNT OF COST RECOVERY THAT THEY SET THEIRS AT.
I REALLY I TALKED TO STAFF ABOUT THIS, AND RATHER THAN FOCUSING ON COST RECOVERY, I ASKED THEM TO REALLY FOCUS MORE ON WHAT WAS REASONABLE IN TERMS OF COST FOR OUR RESIDENTS.
YOU'RE GOING TO SEE HERE, IF WE START OUT AT 1000 MEMBERSHIPS, IT'S 25% RECOVERY.
SO COST RECOVERY REALLY DEPENDS ON HOW MANY MEMBERSHIPS WE HAVE AS OPPOSED TO TRYING TO SET THE AMOUNT OF A FEE BASED ON HOW MUCH WE WANT TO RECOVER.
SO, FOR EXAMPLE, I THINK THE GOODYEAR, THEY ENDED UP IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF 5 OR 10, 10,000
[00:05:09]
MEMBERSHIPS OR SOMETHING LIKE 9000 MEMBERSHIPS.SO I ASKED OUR TEAM TO PUT THAT TOGETHER.
THEY'VE DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB HERE.
AND I THINK THAT JIM IS GOING TO KICK THINGS OFF AND THEN TURN IT OVER TO WAYNE AND BRANDON.
REALLY EXCITED TO BE HERE TONIGHT.
YOU GET AN IMAGE OF THE FACILITY UP THERE.
SO THE IMAGERY IS GETTING MORE REALISTIC.
I MEAN, THIS IS REALLY WHAT WE'RE KIND OF LOOKING AT.
THAT'S GOING TO BE OPEN TO NINE MONTHS BECAUSE THAT'S ABOUT WHAT WE ARE.
SO EXTREMELY EXCITING TO SEE TAKING SHAPE EVERY DAY.
SO TONIGHT, WE'RE HERE TO TALK ABOUT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USER FEES AS WELL AS AMENITY RENTALS.
I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE THE STAFF THAT'S GOING TO BE PRESENTING THE INFORMATION.
WE HIRED HIM ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO.
BUT HIS FOCUS HAS REALLY BEEN TO SEE WHAT EVERYBODY ELSE IN THE STATE DOES.
AND I, I FEEL PRETTY GOOD ABOUT AS WE GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS, AND I THINK WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED IT.
I ALSO THINK WE'VE DONE IT IN A CONCISE MANNER.
ALSO, BOB STINSON, OUR RECREATION SUPERINTENDENT.
SO, WE WANTED TO BE CONSISTENT WITH OUR FEES ACROSS THE BOARD.
SO, BOB, WE APPRECIATE YOUR PARTICIPATION AND TERRY AND ERIC AND JOHNNY, THANK THE THREE OF YOU.
SO I THINK I'D REALLY BE REMISS AS A PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR, YOU KNOW, NOT TO SAY THAT, YOU KNOW, THIS FACILITY WILL TRULY BE ONE OF A KIND FACILITY WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE STATE.
I KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, WE KNOW THAT.
SCHEDULE WISE, WE'RE ON TRACK.
THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION WE'VE HAD SOME CHALLENGES.
AND I THINK DUE TO GOOD TRADE PARTNERS, GOOD ARCHITECT.
I THINK WE'VE AVERTED THOSE PROBLEMS IN A PRETTY GOOD WAY.
SO AS OF TONIGHT, WHERE WE ARE AND THEY'RE VERY CONSCIENTIOUS AND IN DETERMINING WHEN THINGS ARE GOING TO GET DONE, WHEN THEY'RE GOING TO HIT THE BENCHMARKS. BUT WE'RE LOOKING AT SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION IN APRIL WITH AN OPENING IN MAY, AND WE'RE GOING TO NEED A MONTH OR SO TO GET ACCLIMATED AND SO FORTH.
SO WE'RE ON TARGET TO DO THAT.
AND I WANT YOU TO BE AWARE OF THAT.
SO BASED ON COUNCIL'S FEEDBACK TONIGHT, I FEEL REALLY GOOD.
AT THE RETREAT WE SAID, WE WANT TO GET TO YOU AT LATE SUMMER.
WE WANT TO BRING THIS INFORMATION TO YOU LATE SUMMER.
SO, WE ALSO HAVE A NICE RUNWAY OF ANY TYPE OF ADJUSTMENTS THAT YOU ALL WANT US TO DO.
I MEAN, I KNOW IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE GOT TOGETHER.
I JUST WANT TO DO A QUICK INVENTORY OF WHAT THE FACILITY IS, THE LARGE COMMUNITY ROOM.
WE SEE A LOT OF FAMILY EVENTS THERE.
WEDDINGS, CHRISTENING PARTIES.
WHEN WE WERE GOING THROUGH FOCUS GROUPS, OUR FRIENDS AT THE CHAMBER, AMANDA TOLD US, SHE SAID THE NUMBER ONE REQUEST WE GET WEEKLY, SHE SAID, IS WHERE THE PRIVATE SECTOR COMPANIES, WHERE CAN I PULL 100 PEOPLE TOGETHER? WE THINK THIS ROOM IS GOING TO FILL THAT VOID.
[00:10:04]
THEY'LL FIT ABOUT 50 PEOPLE, OF COURSE, A WEIGHT ROOM.THE WEIGHT ROOM IS 5000FTĀ² PLUS.
SO IT'S WHAT YOU WOULD SEE IN A LARGE FACILITY LIKE THIS.
WEIGHT MACHINES. AS FAR AS CARDIO MACHINES, IT WOULD BE VERY, VERY WELL APPOINTED WITH EQUIPMENT.
OUR TWO FITNESS ROOMS. SO YOU COULD WALK IN BASICALLY WITH A FRIEND, YOU COULD PROGRAM IN WHAT YOU WANT.
AND THERE'S A VIDEO ON THE WALL THAT WILL TAKE YOU THROUGH AN EXERCISE PROGRAM.
SO YOU DON'T NEED AN INSTRUCTOR.
THREE COURT GYMNASIUM THAT REALLY DISTINGUISHES THIS FACILITY IN A SPECIAL WAY IN THE STATE.
NOT JUST ONLY SOUTHERN ARIZONA.
18,000FTĀ². I'VE SAID THIS BEFORE, BUT FIGURE HIGH SCHOOL GYM, ABOUT 12,000FTĀ².
BIGGER THAN THAT THREE HIGH SCHOOL SIZE BASKETBALL COURTS.
THREE HIGH SCHOOL SIZE VOLLEYBALL COURTS.
EACH ONE OF THE COURTS CAN BE DIVIDED.
SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO RENT THE FACILITY.
BUT SAY YOU DON'T HAVE A TOURNAMENT OF 35 TEAMS. TWO COURTS. I WANT TO RENT TWO COURTS.
WE CAN PUT DOWN THE DIVIDER AND SOMEBODY CAN DO A TOURNAMENT IN THERE.
YOU CAN HAVE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT ON THE OTHER.
YOU HAVE PEOPLE PLAYING PICKLEBALL.
I MEAN, THE MULTIPLE ACTIVITIES ARE VERY, VERY GOOD IN THIS SPACE.
IT'S VERY EXCITING. WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN THERE? THAT IT WILL BE AN ATTRACTIVE PLACE FOR PEOPLE TO COME, POSSIBLY FOR SPORTS TOURISM.
PEOPLE HAVE TO EXCUSE ME, PEOPLE HAVE TO BUY FOOD, THEY HAVE TO EAT, THEY HAVE TO STAY OVERNIGHT.
SO I MEAN, IT'S GOING TO IT WILL MEET THE MARKERS THAT WE HAD OUT THERE TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY VERY WELL, BUT ALSO HAVE THE FACT TO HAVE ECONOMIC IMPACT WITH SOME SPORTS TOURISM.
THE AQUATIC FACILITY COMPETITIVE SWIMMING POOL.
WE TALK A LOT ABOUT THAT WITH FOCUS GROUPS.
AND WHEN WE'RE GOING THROUGH THE DESIGN PHASE, MOST PEOPLE HAVE TO GO TO A HOSPITAL TO GET THIS.
BUT IF YOU HAVE A HIP REPLACEMENT OR KNEE SURGERY, A LOWER EXTREMITY CONDITION AND YOU'RE REHABBING, THIS IS THE TYPE OF FACILITY THAT YOU COULD GO TO AT OUR FACILITY AND WALK IN A RESISTANCE CHANNEL AGAINST WATER, AND WE'LL DO FITNESS CLASSES IN THAT TOO.
BUT PEOPLE WILL JUST EXERCISE IN THAT ENVIRONMENT.
BUT IN THE PLAY POOL, WE HAVE THAT RESISTANCE CHANNEL AND THEN WE HAVE A SPLASH PAD.
OBVIOUSLY SPLASH PADS ARE BIG TO US.
WE HAVE TWO. WE'RE BUILDING ANOTHER ONE NEXT YEAR UP AT TANGERINE SKY.
IT'LL BE OPEN FOR NEXT SUMMER.
THIS WOULD BE AN EXCEPTIONAL SPLASH PAD, ZERO DEPTH ENTRY, WHICH IS REALLY GREAT WITH THE LITTLE ONES YOU'RE WALKING IN WITH YOUR 16 MONTH OLD TODDLER WALKING IN. IT'S ZERO DEPTH AND YOU CAN WALK RIGHT IN.
GRANDPARENTS IN A WHEELCHAIR CAN WHEEL RIGHT IN.
SO LOTS OF GREAT FEEDBACK WITH ZERO DEPTH ENTRY FOR LITTLE ONES AS WELL AS HANDICAPPED BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY IT'S GOOD FOR THE CHILDREN, BUT IT'S ALSO GOOD FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE WHEELCHAIR BOUND.
IT'S AN OUTDOOR RENTABLE SPACE.
I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR FAMILY TIME.
SO HOW DID WE ARRIVE AT THE COST THAT WE'RE GOING TO PRESENT HERE TONIGHT.
THESE ARE THE COMMUNITIES AND THE STATE THAT HAVE SIMILAR FACILITIES.
THE MUNICIPALITIES THAT HAVE COMPARABLE RECREATION AMENITIES LIKE WE HAVE IN OUR FACILITY.
I HAVE TO SAY, NO FACILITY IN THE STATE HAS EXACTLY WHAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE AT OUR FACILITY.
THEY ALL HAVE SOMETHING SIMILAR.
SO WHAT WE DID, WE PULLED ANALYSIS FROM EVERY ONE OF THESE JURISDICTIONS, PUT IT TOGETHER, AND BASICALLY STARTED TO DO OUR ANALYSIS OF WHAT'S RIGHT FOR MARANA, TOOK IT BACK TO TERRY, TOOK IT BACK TO ERIK, TOOK IT BACK TO YANNI, WENT BACK AND FORTH, REWORKED IT.
[00:15:02]
BUT WE HAVE ALL BACKUP ON THIS.IF ANYONE HAS SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ABOUT ANY INFORMATION THAT YOU SEE TONIGHT, THERE'S LAYERS OF DATA THAT WE WENT THROUGH FROM THESE DIFFERENT MUNICIPALITIES TO LAND ON WHERE WE LANDED TONIGHT.
AT THIS POINT I'M GOING TO HAND THE BALL OFF TO WAYNE.
BUT THIS IS THE STRUCTURE OF WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THE REST OF THE NIGHT.
THE FOCUS WILL BE ON THE MEMBERSHIP PASSED PROPOSAL.
WHAT DOES IT COST TO JOIN THE RENT? ALL THE AMENITIES THAT I WENT THROUGH, AS WELL AS THE AFTER HOUR RENTALS.
WAYNE. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU JIM.
MAYOR HONEA VICE MAYOR POST, MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL.
SO, WITH US HERE PRESENTING THESE, THAT MEANS WE'RE JUST THAT MUCH CLOSER TO OPENING THE FACILITY.
MOST OF YOU HAVE MET HIM, BUT IF NOT, BRANDON LAO COMES TO US FROM NEXT DOOR VALLEY.
HE'S GOT 17 PLUS YEARS OF RECREATION EXPERIENCE, INCLUDING EIGHT PLUS YEARS OF AQUATIC EXPERIENCE.
HE STEPPED RIGHT IN AND BEEN A GREAT FIT FOR THE DEPARTMENT.
AND YOU'LL SEE A LOT OF HIS EFFORTS AS WE FINISH THE PRESENTATION TONIGHT.
SO WE'LL JUMP TO THAT FIRST SLIDE.
SO THIS IS A VISION OF WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO SEE WHEN YOU WALK IN THE FRONT DOOR.
AND THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT RIGHT DOWN TO THE COLORS.
THIS IS EVEN THE FURNITURE THAT YOU'RE GOING TO SEE WHEN YOU WALK IN THE FRONT DOOR.
AND SO WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THESE TONIGHT.
BUT WE DID WANT TO GIVE YOU A REMINDER THAT THERE IS SOME FREE COMMUNITY SPACE IN THE CENTER.
SO WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS A BIG LOBBY.
THEY CAN COME WITHOUT A FEE AND BE IN THIS SPACE.
IN THAT E GAMING ROOM, WE'LL ALSO HAVE A TUTORING SPACE.
AND AGAIN, THERE'S NO CHARGE TO BE IN THAT PORTION OF THE BUILDING.
WE'VE GOT THE FRONT DESK THERE, AND AS WE GET TO THE FRONT DESK AND BEYOND.
THOSE ARE THE AMENITIES WHERE WE START TO HAVE THE FEES INVOLVED.
SO WE'LL JUMP TO THE NEXT SLIDE.
AND THE FIRST ONE THAT WE'RE GOING TO START WITH ARE THE MEMBERSHIP PASSES.
SO I'M JUST GOING TO WALK YOU THROUGH ALL OF THE PASSES AND THE FEES.
THE FIRST IS THE YOUTH CATEGORY AND A YOUTH IS ANYONE FROM THE AGE OF 4 TO 17.
THE ADULT CATEGORY IS FOR ANYONE 18 TO 61.
SO 62 AND ABOVE IS A SENIOR RATE.
AND THEN THERE'S A FAMILY RATE AS WELL.
SO WE'VE GOT THE FOUR CATEGORIES.
AND THEN ADDITIONALLY WE'VE GOT FOUR DIFFERENT PASS TYPES.
AND SO THE PROPOSED RATE FOR A YOUTH IS $4, FOR AN ADULT IS $6.
THE SENIOR PROPOSED DAILY RATE IS $5, AND THEN THERE'S NOT A PROPOSED DAILY RATE FOR FAMILIES.
THERE ARE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES WITH THOSE OTHER RATES TO COME IN ON A DAILY BASIS FOR INDIVIDUALS.
WE JUMPED DOWN TO THE MONTHLY PASS.
OUR PROPOSED RATES FOR THE MONTHLY PASS FOR YOUTH ARE $20, ADULTS ARE $30, SENIORS ARE $25, AND THE FAMILY MONTHLY PASS IS $65. AND THEN WE'RE OFFERING A SIX MONTH PASS.
THE YOUTH RATE FOR THE SIX MONTH PASS IS $100, ADULTS IS $150, SENIORS IS 125.
SO IF YOU DO THE MATH BASED ON THE TO $20 MONTHLY PASS.
WHEN YOU BUY A SIX MONTH PASS, YOU REALLY JUST PAY FOR FIVE MONTHS.
SO YOU BUY THAT SIX MONTH PASS AND YOU GET YOUR SIX MONTH FOR FREE.
NOW WE'LL JUMP DOWN TO THE ANNUAL PASS.
THE PROPOSED RATE IS $200 ADULTS, 300 SENIORS $250, AND THE FAMILY RATE IS $650.
WITH THE ANNUAL PASS, YOU'RE PAYING FOR TEN MONTHS AND YOU GET THOSE OTHER.
[00:20:01]
THE LAST TWO MONTHS FOR FREE.SO FOR OUR PURPOSES, TO QUALIFY FOR A RESIDENT RATE, YOU SAID YOU HAVE TO HAVE A MARANA ZIP CODE.
BUT WE ALSO RECOGNIZE THAT SURROUNDING MARANA ARE ZIP CODES OF PEOPLE WHO SPEND MONEY IN MARANA, WHO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR SERVICES, AND WHO HAVE HELPED FUND THE COMMUNITY CENTER THROUGH THE HATS AND SALES TAX.
AND THEN WE'LL JUMP TO THE NEXT SLIDE.
AND THIS IS THE NONRESIDENT RATE.
AND THAT'S HOW WE ARRIVE AT THE NONRESIDENT RATE.
AND SO FROM HERE, BRANDON'S GOING TO COME UP AND TALK TO YOU ABOUT HOW WE ARRIVED AT THESE NUMBERS.
MAYOR HONEA, VICE MAYOR POST, MEMBERS OF COUNCIL.
IT'S NICE TO FORMALLY MEET YOU.
BUT WE'LL LOOK AT THIS NEXT SLIDE AND I'LL TAKE A MOMENT TO ORIENTATE YOU TO THIS TABLE.
THIS IS SPECIFIC TO THE ADULT CATEGORY.
SO WE'LL MOVE ON FROM ADULT TO SENIOR AND TO YOUTH AND SO ON AND SO FORTH.
SO AGAIN, WE'RE LOOKING AT ADULT HERE.
SAME FOUR CATEGORIES THAT WAYNE PRESENTED TO YOU EARLIER.
WE HAVE A DAY PASS, A MONTHLY PASS, SIX MONTHS PASS.
AND OF COURSE, OUR 12 MONTH ANNUAL PASS.
AND IN THE FIRST COLUMN YOU'LL SEE IS THE MUNICIPAL AVERAGE.
SO AGAIN, JIM EARLIER MENTIONED THE MUNICIPALITIES AND THE AGENCIES THAT WE COMPARED TO.
SO, WHAT THAT AVERAGE IS DOING IS JUST PRESENTING THE DATA RANGE WITHIN THOSE ORGANIZATIONS.
IN SOME INSTANCES THERE'S A PRIVATE AVERAGE.
AND WHAT THAT SPECIFICALLY REFERS TO IS A PRIVATE GYM.
SO, LIKE AN LA FITNESS, A PLANET FITNESS AND ANYTIME FITNESS, THOSE ARE THE GYMS THAT WE SURVEYED.
BUT KEEP IN MIND EVEN THAT AVERAGE COMPARING A PRIVATE GYM IS NOT AN APPLES TO APPLES.
SO BUT THAT DATA IS THERE IF IT'S AVAILABLE.
AND THEN THE LAST TWO COLUMNS ARE WHERE THE MEAT OF THIS ALL IS.
SO THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT COLUMNS, IN MY OPINION, AS WE MOVE THROUGH THIS DATA.
AND THAT'S THE MUNICIPAL AVERAGE AND WHAT WE'RE PROPOSING.
AND AGAIN THESE PROPOSED RATES ARE THE SAME RATES THAT WE JUST WENT OVER.
WE'RE JUST DISSECTING THEM CATEGORY BY CATEGORY.
SO IF YOU LOOK AT THE DAY PASS AGAIN FOR AN ADULT WE'RE PROPOSING $6.
WE'RE PROPOSING $30 FOR THE MONTHLY PASS.
WE'RE PROPOSING 150 FOR THE SIX MONTH PASS AVERAGE BEING 172.
AND THEN FINALLY THE ANNUAL PASS PROPOSING $300 FOR AN ADULT AVERAGE BEING 308.
MOVING ON. WE'LL LOOK AT THE SCENE HERE.
AND THAT'S OUR CURRENT SENIOR MEMBERS OVER AT THE SENIOR CENTER.
SO THOSE WE HAVE OVER 500 MEMBERS OVER THERE.
SO WHAT WE'RE PROPOSING IS TWO DAYS A WEEK, TUESDAY, THURSDAY, FOR EXAMPLE, 9 TO 3, WE'LL BE ABLE TO GET EXISTING SENIOR CENTER MEMBERS OVER TO THE NEW CENTER TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THOSE AMENITIES THAT JIM POINTED OUT EARLIER, THEY COULD WALK THE WALKING TRACK.
THEY COULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A CLASS OR HOP IN THE POOL FOR SOME AQUA AEROBICS, WHATEVER IT MAY BE.
BUT WE CERTAINLY WANT TO HONOR THOSE EXISTING MEMBERS AND SHOW THEM A SIDE OF THE NEW FACILITY.
THE OTHER ELEMENT WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT PURSUING IS INSURANCE-BASED BENEFITS.
SO MOST NOTABLY, SILVERSNEAKERS IS A IS A POPULAR ONE.
SILVERSNEAKERS SILVER AND FIT AND RENEW ACTIVE ARE SOME THREE KEY PLAYERS, AND THEY'RE JUST DIFFERENT INSURANCE COMPANIES THAT AGAIN HELP BENEFIT SENIOR CITIZENS IN GETTING DISCOUNTED OR FREE GYM MEMBERSHIPS.
SO THROUGH OUR RESEARCH AND COMMUNICATING WITH OUR NEIGHBORS, WE ANTICIPATE 75% OF THE INDIVIDUALS THAT WOULD FALL INTO THIS SENIOR CATEGORY BEING ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A FREE MEMBERSHIP THROUGH THEIR HEALTHCARE PROVIDER.
THAT'S PRETTY COMMON. AGAIN, JUST WITH THE RESEARCH THAT WE'VE DONE.
SO REALLY EXCITED ABOUT PURSUING THOSE PARTNERSHIPS WITH THOSE ORGANIZATIONS.
WE WON'T GO THROUGH EACH CELL.
I JUST WANT TO FOCUS ON THE LAST TWO COLUMNS.
6 MONTHS PASS, PROPOSING 125 AND THE AVERAGE BEING 149.
AND THEN FINALLY THE ANNUAL PASS, WHICH WE'RE PROPOSING 250 AND THE AVERAGE BEING 258.
SO YOU CAN SEE WE'RE PRETTY COMPETITIVE THERE.
JUMPING INTO THE YOUTH CATEGORY AGAIN, JUST FOCUSING ON THOSE LAST TWO COLUMNS PROPOSING $4 FOR DAILY DROP IN AND THE AVERAGE BEING $4, $20 FOR THE ANNUAL PASS, THE AVERAGE BEING 22, I'M SORRY, MONTHLY PASS.
[00:25:02]
$100 FOR THE SIX MONTH PASS, THE AVERAGE BEING 99.AND THEN FINALLY THE ANNUAL PASS AT $200 AND THE AVERAGE BEING 168.
SO, YOU CAN SEE WE'RE PRETTY COMPETITIVE THERE AS WELL.
JUMPING INTO THE FAMILY AGAIN BEFORE I DIVE INTO THE DATA.
WAYNE MENTIONED EARLIER WE WANTED TO ARTICULATE HOW WE DEFINE FAMILY.
SO DOING OUR RESEARCH, WE FOUND FACILITIES THAT WANT TO CAP A FAMILY MEMBERSHIP.
MAYBE IT'S TWO ADULTS AND FOUR KIDS.
TWO ADULTS AND TWO KIDS, WHATEVER IT MAY BE.
SO IF YOU HAVE A LARGER HOUSEHOLD YOU KNOW, MULTIPLE KIDS, MAYBE A GRANDPARENT LIVING WITH YOU, WHATEVER IT MAY BE, WE WANT WE WANT EVERYBODY WITHIN THE HOUSEHOLD TO HAVE ACCESS TO THIS AMAZING AMENITY.
SO WITH THAT, LOOKING AT THE TWO RIGHT HAND COLUMNS, WE'RE NOT PROPOSING A DAILY RATE.
THERE'S ONLY A FEW INDIVIDUALS OUT THERE THAT ARE DOING THAT.
AGAIN, THERE'S INDIVIDUAL RATES YOU CAN KIND OF TAILOR TO THE GROUP THAT YOU'RE DROPPING IN.
AND 650 FOR THE ANNUAL PASS AND THE AVERAGE BEING 634.
LAST ITEM I WANT TO TOUCH ON BEFORE I HAND IT BACK TO WAYNE IS THE CHILD WATCH.
SO THIS IS ANOTHER AMENITY WE MENTIONED EARLIER THAT WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT.
AND SO THIS WILL GIVE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR, FOR FAMILIES TO COME ON BY.
MAYBE IT'S A MOTHER AND A SON.
A MOTHER WANTS TO GO TAKE A YOGA CLASS.
THEY'LL BE ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT FOR FREE.
SO AGAIN, IF THEY HAVE A CHILD IN THAT, IN THAT FAMILY MEMBERSHIP, THEY'RE GOOD TO GO.
THE MUNICIPAL AVERAGE IS $4 AND WE'RE PROPOSING THE SAME $4.
COUNCILMEMBER COMERFORD. I JUST HAVE A QUESTION OF WHAT IS THE AGE LIMIT OF A CHILD THAT CAN COME IN ON THEIR OWN, ON THEIR OWN, TO THE FACILITY OR ON THEIR OWN CHILD WATCH, NOT TO CHILD WATCH IF THEY DON'T HAVE A PARENT THERE.
YEAH. AND I'M ASSUMING THERE'S A AGE RESTRAINT ON CHILD WATCH.
I HAVE TO LOOK AT MY NOTES, BUT IT CAPS OFF THAT AT EIGHT YEARS OLD.
SEVEN. YEAH, BUT ENTERING THE FACILITY IS 13 AND ABOVE.
THERE ARE CERTAIN ELEMENTS OF THE FACILITY THAT YOU MIGHT NEED SPECIAL ACCESS FOR.
AS WELL AS THE POOL HAS A DIFFERENT AGE REQUIREMENT AS WELL, BUT 13 IS TYPICALLY 13 AND ABOVE.
THEY CAN BE THERE ON THEIR OWN.
THANK YOU. SO AGAIN THAT'S CHILD WATCH.
AND THAT'S AN AMENITY THAT WE'RE, WE'RE HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO OFFER AND EXCITED ABOUT.
BUT WITH THAT I'LL TURN IT OVER TO WAYNE.
ALRIGHT. SO LET'S TALK ABOUT THE RENTABLE SPACES.
WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS THE COMMUNITY ROOM.
AND JIM MENTIONED THIS AT THE VERY BEGINNING.
WE FEEL THIS IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE THE MOST REQUESTED AND THE MOST USED SPACE IN THE BUILDING.
THERE ARE GOING TO BE BIG SCREENS.
AND THEN AT THE BACK YOU CAN SEE THE GLASS.
THOSE DOORS ARE GOING TO SLIDE OPEN, SO YOUR PARTY CAN SPILL OUT ONTO AN EXTERIOR SPACE.
AND THEN A REALLY GREAT FEATURE OF THIS ROOM IS THAT THERE'S REALLY EASY ACCESS FOR FOOD TRUCKS.
SO CATERING A PARTY OR AN EVENT TO THIS SPACE IS GOING TO BE SMOOTH AND IT'S GOING TO BE EASY.
AND SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS SPACE FOR OUR USE FOR THE PUBLIC USE.
IT'S WE FEEL IT'S GOING TO REALLY FILL UP QUICKLY.
AND SO THE COMMUNITY ROOM THAT WE JUST TALKED ABOUT IS A SPACE OF ABOUT 2800FTĀ².
AND BASED ON THE SQUARE FOOTAGE, YOU CAN SEE 188 PEOPLE.
AND THEN OUR PROPOSED RATE FOR THAT IS $120 AN HOUR.
THEY CAN HOLD UP TO 49 CLOSE TO 50 PEOPLE.
AND THAT'S GOING TO BE MORE FOR LIKE A MEETING.
[00:30:06]
SO MAYBE A WORKSHOP OR A SYMPOSIUM, THESE ARE GOING TO BE GREAT SPACES FOR THAT.WAYNE, QUICK QUESTION FOR YOU.
YES, SIR. ON THE COMMUNITY ROOM, WILL THEY WILL YOU HAVE KITCHEN FACILITIES OR ABILITY TO REFRIGERATE FOOD OR WARM FOOD, OR HAS TO BE ALL CATERED BY SOMEONE? OR HOW DOES THAT WORK? COUNCILMEMBER KAI, THANKS FOR THE QUESTION.
IT'S A SMALL KITCHEN. IT'S JUST A WARMING KITCHEN.
SO YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO COME IN AND PREPARE A MEAL.
BUT YOU COULD COME IN AND WITH PREHEATED FOOD AND HEAT IT THERE, THERE WILL BE A REFRIGERATOR, NOT A HUGE SPACE, BUT ENOUGH TO, YOU KNOW, STORE A CAKE OR DRINKS, THAT KIND OF THING. AND THERE WILL BE AN ICE MACHINE AVAILABLE AS WELL.
OKAY, SO WE'LL JUMP TO THE GYM AGAIN.
JIM MENTIONED THE GYM AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PRESENTATION.
AND AGAIN, ANOTHER REALLY EXCITING SPACE FOR US, 18,000FTĀ².
THREE SEPARATE COURTS ARE AVAILABLE.
OUR PROPOSED RATE IS $75 AN HOUR PER COURT.
AND IF YOU DO THE MATH, YOU SEE THAT THREE COURT $75 AN HOUR.
IT'S A COST OF $225, BUT WE'RE PROPOSING AN ADDITIONAL FEE ON TOP OF THAT, WITH THE RECOGNITION THAT RENTING THIS ENTIRE SPACE MEANS IT'S UNAVAILABLE FOR THE REST OF THE MEMBERS AND UNAVAILABLE FOR THE REST OF OUR RESIDENTS.
SO, WE FEEL LIKE THERE SHOULD BE A COST TO TAKE THAT ENTIRE SPACE OFFLINE.
AND THAT'S WHAT'S REFLECTED IN THAT COST.
SO, IT IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT WILL HAPPEN EVERY WEEK.
JUST ANOTHER NOTE ABOUT THE GYM.
SOMETHING THAT WE REALLY FOCUSED ON IN THE PLANNING PROCESS WAS THE FLOORING.
IT'S GREAT FOR SPORTS COURT USAGES, AND IT'S GREAT FOR JUST A VARIETY OF OTHER USAGES.
SO, THE GYM ISN'T LIMITED TO BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS, VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENTS, PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENTS.
WE CAN HAVE A BASKETBALL COURT ON FRIDAY NIGHT, TURN AROUND SATURDAY MORNING AND HAVE AN ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR, AND THEN SATURDAY EVENING WE COULD HAVE A COMPANY HOLIDAY PARTY IN THE GYM. WE CAN SET UP TABLES.
SO WE'LL MOVE TO THE LAST CATEGORY HERE.
AND THAT'S THE POOL. CABANAS AT THE POOL WILL HAVE TEN RENTABLE CABANAS.
BUT IF YOU'VE GOT A LARGER PARTY, THIS IS ALSO A GOOD SPACE FOR THAT.
IF YOU'VE GOT 20 OR 30 PEOPLE.
SOME ARE IN THE POOL, SOME ARE ON THE SLIDES.
THIS IS JUST A GREAT PLACE TO MEET UP IN A SAFE SPACE.
AND NOW, BRANDON, TO COME BACK AND TALK TO YOU ABOUT HOW WE GOT TO THESE RATES.
A CONCISE TABLE HERE, BUT SAME FOR AMENITIES THAT WAYNE JUST MENTIONED.
SO WHAT WE FOUND IS SURVEYING THE OTHER AGENCIES THAT WE REFERENCED YOU COULD EXPECT TO PAY ANYWHERE FROM 85 TO $250 AN HOUR TO RENT A COMPARABLE SPACE.
AND WE TRY TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS AS COMPARABLE AS POSSIBLE, WHETHER THAT BE SQUARE FOOTAGE OR JUST GENERAL CAPACITY THAT COULD SEE BUT YEAH, THAT WOULD THAT IS WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO PAY. OF COURSE, THE AVERAGE BEING 134.
AND AGAIN WE'RE PAYING WE'RE PROPOSING 120 AS THE HOURLY RATE FOR THAT COMMUNITY ROOM.
MULTI-PURPOSE ROOMS. YOU CAN EXPECT TO PAY ANYWHERE FROM 25 TO $75 AN HOUR FOR A SPACE THAT IS SIMILAR TO THAT AVERAGE, BEING 44.
THE COURTS YOU CAN SEE THE DATA HERE.
INDIVIDUAL COURT ANYWHERE FROM 43 TO 75.
AND AGAIN WE'RE PROPOSING 75 FOR A SINGLE COURT.
THE WHOLE GYMNASIUM, YOU CAN SEE ANYWHERE FROM 126 TO 225.
SO WITH THE GYMNASIUM, AGAIN, WE ARE A VERY UNIQUE FACILITY.
SO WHEN WE SAY GYMNASIUM, WE MEAN THREE INDIVIDUAL COURTS.
THAT MIGHT NOT BE WHAT OTHER COMMUNITIES MEAN.
IT MIGHT NOT BE YOU KNOW, INDIVIDUAL COST, YOU KNOW, OF ONE COURT TIMES TWO OR TIMES THREE.
[00:35:03]
THERE'S USUALLY AN UPCHARGE TO TAKE THAT AMENITY OFF.SO YOU CAN SEE ANYWHERE FROM 50 TO $200 AN HOUR, AVERAGE BEING 133.
SO I'LL TALK ABOUT THOSE NUMBERS BECAUSE THOSE ARE BIG DIFFERENCES.
BUT IT'S A REALLY UNIQUE AND PROGRAMABLE SPACE.
SO WHAT YOU WOULD FIND FOR 50 TO $200 IS POTENTIALLY A LARGER REMODEL.
MAYBE THAT CAN HOLD 25, MAYBE THAT CAN HOLD 50 PEOPLE.
AND TYPICALLY OTHER JURISDICTIONS ARE CHARGING THAT FEE INCLUDES ADMISSION.
SO WITH US, AGAIN, WE WANTED A VERY APPROACHABLE RATE.
WE WANTED IT AS AN AFFORDABLE ADD ON.
SO THIS WOULD BE THE ADD ON TO YOUR ACCESS TO THE POOL.
AND AS WE MENTIONED, IT COULD BE A TOUCHDOWN SPACE AND IT CAN BE ADAPTABLE TO YOUR SIZE.
SO THEY ARE TEN INDIVIDUAL CABANAS BUT THEY'RE PARTITIONED.
AND IT'S REALLY APPROACHABLE AND AFFORDABLE.
SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT AMENITY AS WELL.
I'LL TURN IT BACK OVER TO WAYNE.
ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, BRANDON.
OUR LAST CATEGORY ARE THE AFTER HOURS RENTALS.
BUT BEFORE WE JUMP THERE, ANOTHER GREAT VISUAL.
AND THESE ARE THE COLORS THAT YOU'RE GOING TO SEE.
THIS IS THE FURNITURE THAT YOU'RE GOING TO SEE ON THIS DECK TO THE LEFT.
SO JUST FOR PERSPECTIVE THIS IS WEST FACING.
SO THERE ARE PICNIC TABLES THAT YOU CAN HAVE LUNCH THERE.
AND IN THE BACK OF THE FACILITY THERE'S AGAIN ACCESS FOR FOOD TRUCKS.
SO, WE'LL REALLY BE ABLE TO SERVICE THIS AREA WELL WITH THIS.
ALL RIGHT. SO LET'S TALK ABOUT AFTER HOURS RENTALS.
SO, FOR INSTANCE, ON A SATURDAY NIGHT, WE CLOSE AT 6:00.
IF YOU'RE HAVING A WEDDING, IT'S NOT UNREASONABLE TO WANT TO GO BEYOND THAT 6:00.
SO WE'RE PROPOSING THAT YOU CAN DO THAT.
AND JUST TO TO POINT OUT WHAT'S INCLUDED IN YOUR RENTAL.
AND THIS IS THIS IS INCLUDED IN A REGULAR RENTAL IN THE COMMUNITY ROOM.
YOU'VE GOT ACCESS TO OUR AV EQUIPMENT.
THE TABLE AND CHAIR SETUP IS ALL PERFORMED BY THE COMMUNITY CENTER STAFF.
THE COURTYARD THAT WE TALKED ABOUT SO THAT EXTERIOR SPACE IS A PART OF THAT RENTAL.
AND THEN THE WARMING KITCHEN IS AVAILABLE.
BUT THE BIG PART OF THIS IS THE STAFF.
SO, WE NEED TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL STAFF TO HAVE THOSE AFTER-HOURS PARTIES.
AND THEN WE'RE PROPOSING A RATE OF $250 AN HOUR, AND THAT WILL ACCOMMODATE 250 GUESTS.
AND SO THE OTHER BIG OPPORTUNITY FOR RENTALS ARE IN OUR AQUATICS AREAS.
SO JUST TO BE CLEAR, WE'VE GOT TWO SEPARATE AREAS IN THE POOL.
OH I'M SORRY. IS THERE A QUESTION? I'M JUST WONDERING, ARE THERE SEPARATE ENTRANCES AND EXITS TO THOSE FACILITIES SO THAT PEOPLE ARE HAVING TO COME IN THROUGH THE MAIN DOOR? SO, SO IN THE, IN THE COMMUNITY ROOM, THE WAY THE BUILDING IS SET UP, THEY'LL COME IN.
WE PREFER THAT THEY WOULD COME IN THROUGH THE DOOR.
THAT WAY. STAFF WORKING THE FACILITY KNOW WHO'S THERE? SO REALLY, IT'S A SAFETY FEATURE.
WHEN YOU GET TO THE FRONT DESK, IF YOU'RE GOING TO THE COMMUNITY ROOM FOR A PARTY, YOU TAKE A LEFT.
IF YOU'RE GOING INTO THE FACILITY, YOU NEED TO PASS THE FRONT DESK.
IF YOU IF YOU'VE GOT A PASS, YOU NEED TO SCAN YOUR PASS.
OR IF YOU'RE PAYING A DAILY FEE, YOU PAY THERE.
SO, THERE'S STAFF THERE MONITORING WHICH DIRECTION THERE'LL BE ANOTHER STAFF PERSON.
I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY FROM THE FRONT DESK YOU CAN SEE THE ENTIRE BUILDING.
OH, OKAY. CORRECT. WE'VE GOT VIDEO MONITORS THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING.
SO, WE'VE GOT A WAY TO MONITOR THAT AS WELL.
OKAY. AND THEN WHAT ARE YOUR REGULAR HOURS? SO WHAT WOULD BE AFTER HOURS?
[00:40:01]
SO MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, WE'RE LOOKING AT 6 A.M.THE HOURS OF THE SWIMMING POOL MIGHT BE DIFFER A LITTLE BIT BASED ON THE SEASON.
SATURDAYS WE'RE LOOKING AT 8 A.M.
AND SUNDAYS WE'RE LOOKING AT 10 P.M.
TO 6 P.M. OR, EXCUSE ME, 10 A.M.
WE DON'T WANT TO KEEP YOU UP LATE ON A SUNDAY NIGHT.
IS THAT IT FOR SUNDAYS? OKAY. OKAY.
SO, WE'LL MOVE TO THE SWIMMING POOL.
ANOTHER GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR AFTER HOURS RENTALS.
AND SO WE HAVE TWO SEPARATE SIDES OF THE POOL.
WE'RE ABLE TO SLIDE A GATE AND CLOSE OFF THE COMPETITION SIDE FROM THE RECREATION SIDE.
AND SO, WE'LL TALK FIRST ABOUT THE RECREATION SIDE THAT'S AVAILABLE FOR RENTALS AFTER HOURS, AND WHAT'S INCLUDED ON THE RECREATION SIDE OF ALL OF THE RECREATION AMENITIES THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC WHEN THE POOL IS OPEN.
AND THEN AGAIN, THE BIG THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS IS ALL THE LIFEGUARD STAFF.
WE PROVIDE THAT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE HAVING A FUN AND A SAFE EVENT.
AND OUR PROPOSED RATE IS $400 AND THAT WILL ACCOMMODATE 300 PEOPLE.
SO THAT INCLUDES ALL OF THE RECREATION AMENITIES.
BUT THEN YOU GET THE 12 LANES OF THE OF THE COMPETITION POOL, PLUS THE TWO DIVING BOARDS.
THAT ACCOMMODATES 500 500 PEOPLE AND THE PROPOSED RATE IS $600 AN HOUR.
AND THEN BRANDON'S GOING TO COME AND FINISH THIS UP AND TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THESE NUMBERS.
MORE DATA. SO AGAIN THE SAME THREE AMENITIES.
JUST WANTED TO GO THROUGH THEM.
AND THEN WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE VALUABLE IN PRESENTING WHAT THE VALUE IS PER INDIVIDUAL.
SO, FOCUSING ON THE COMMUNITY ROOM FIRST, AGAIN THERE WASN'T A WHOLE LOT OF DATA OUT THERE AS FAR AS AFTER HOURS, BECAUSE THAT'S KIND OF DEPENDENT ON, ON THE FACILITY THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO.
SO, IT WASN'T THE DATA RANGE TO COMPARE TO.
BUT AGAIN, WE'RE PROPOSING THAT 250 AND AT THE 250-PERSON CAPACITY.
THAT'S DOLLAR PER PERSON. SO, A GREAT VALUE.
SO WE ARE ABLE TO SEPARATE IT OUT NORTH, HALF BEING THE RECREATION HALF OF THE POOL.
AND AGAIN, YOU CAN EXPECT TO PAY ANYWHERE FROM 300 TO $450 AN HOUR.
FOR THIS TYPE OF AMENITY, WE'RE RECOMMENDING 400 AND A 300 PERSON CAPACITY.
AND THEN JUMPING INTO THE FULL FACILITY AGAIN, GATES WIDE OPEN WITHIN THE FACILITY, GETTING ACCESS TO EVERYTHING THAT WE HAVE ON THE POOL DECK, 4 TO $600 IS WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO PAY.
AGAIN, WE'RE RECOMMENDING $600 AN HOUR AT 500 PEOPLE PERSON CAPACITY.
SO, A PRETTY AMAZING VALUE IF YOU CAN PICTURE WANTING TO RENT THIS SPACE OUT.
IT'S A GREAT VALUE FOR THE SPACE.
SO, WITH THAT WE APPRECIATE YOU PRESENTING YOU TODAY.
ANY QUESTIONS? DO WE I MEAN, TALKING TO OTHER FACILITIES AROUND ARIZONA, DO WE FORESEE A LOT OF USE, LIKE RENTING THE WHOLE POOL? IS THAT SOMETHING THAT'S DONE QUITE A LOT? COUNCIL MEMBER CRAIG.
YEAH, I THINK IT'S A PRETTY POPULAR MANY.
RIGHT? BUT IT WOULD MATCH WITH THE SEASONAL HOURS OF OUR FACILITY.
SOME GROUPS WANT THAT EXCLUSIVITY.
[00:45:04]
SO YOU GET A LOT OF DIVERSE USE OF THE POOL, AND I THINK WE CAN EXPECT THAT AS WELL.SO HE HAS A LOT OF EXPERIENCE IN THAT AREA.
BUT A BIG PART OF OUR PRIORITY IS GOING TO BE TO PROTECT THE FACILITY FOR OUR RESIDENTS TO USE.
SO, AS WAYNE SAID, WITH THE GYM, IT'S LIKE A BIG TOURNAMENT THAT WANTS TO COME IN AND RENT THE WHOLE THING, BECAUSE TOURNAMENT ORGANIZER COULD MAKE A LOT OF MONEY IN A GYM LIKE THIS WITH 5060 TEAMS, CHARGE TEAMS 400 BUCKS A TEAM.
I MEAN, I'M JUST SAYING IT'S VERY PROFITABLE.
SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO BE STRATEGIC AND REALLY CAREFUL ON WHAT WE RENT, WE ALLOW IT.
WILL WE ALLOW SOME YOU KNOW MHC YOU KNOW AGAIN SOMEONE FROM MHC SAID NO ONE OF OUR EMPLOYEE INCENTIVES, WE MIGHT RENT THE WHOLE POOL AREA, YOU KNOW, KIND OF THING AND, YOU KNOW, SOMETHING LIKE THAT OCCASIONALLY, YOU KNOW, PROBABLY BE GREAT.
BUT WE DO HAVE TO PROTECT HOURS FOR OUR PEOPLE.
COUNCILMEMBER COMERFORD ASKED ABOUT THE HOURS.
SO WE'RE GOING TO BE OPEN 15 HOURS A DAY DURING THE WEEK, 6 A.M.
TEN HOURS ON SATURDAY, SIX HOURS ON SUNDAY.
THE EARLY MORNING SWIMMERS, THE MOMS AND THE TOP PROGRAMS FOLKS COMING IN AFTER WORK.
SO, WHAT ABOUT THE LOCAL SWIM TEAM? OH, SURE. YEAH. GO AHEAD.
SO, YEAH, WE'VE BEEN IN COMMUNICATION WITH THE MARINA MARLINS.
SO THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW FACILITY.
BUT FOR GROUPS LIKE THAT, YOU KNOW, THAT WOULD DIFFER FROM AN AFTERHOURS RENTAL.
IT'S MORE OF A DURING HOURS RENTAL RATE.
BUT THAT'S WHY WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THE COMPETITIVE POOL AND THE LABS THAT ARE AVAILABLE THERE.
AND AGAIN, BACK TO THE PARTITION ABILITY OF THE POOL DECK.
YOU KNOW, YOU CAN HAVE ORGANIZED GROUPS AND FAMILIES CAN BE ENJOYING THE POOL AT THE SAME TIME.
SO OUR FACILITY IS EQUIPPED TO BE ABLE TO HOUSE SWIM TEAMS AND AQUA AEROBICS.
YOU KNOW THE DIVERSITY, RIGHT? JUST I'M JUST WONDERING ON COST FOR THEM IF THEY'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO HANDLE THAT, I DON'T KNOW ANYMORE.
HE HAD REMOVED FROM IT FOR SO LONG THE HOURLY RATE WHEN THEY HAVE, WHAT, A COMPETITION FOR TEN, 12 HOURS A DAY SOMETIMES, RIGHT? YEAH. AND THAT'S ONE OF THOSE BALANCING THINGS.
COUNCILMEMBER COMERFORD WE HAVE MET WITH THE MARLINS GOING BACK SEVERAL MONTHS, MULTIPLE TIMES.
OBVIOUSLY, WE HAVE A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM.
THEY'RE IN THE POOL AT OUR CURRENT POOL, YOU KNOW, EVERY MORNING IN THE SUMMER.
YEAH. WE WANT THEM TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
SO, I THINK THEY'RE VERY HAPPY WITH THE ARRANGEMENT THAT WE'VE COME UP WITH THEM.
THEY WOULD HAVE TOLD US THAT THEY'RE NOT.
OH, I'M SURE THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN REALLY CLEAR.
I CAN SEE THAT ALL OF A SUDDEN, LIKE THE SOFTBALL OR DIFFERENT FROM LITTLE LEAGUE YOUTH GROUP OR WHATEVER, COMING AND SAYING, WELL, WE WANT OUR TIME TO, YOU KNOW, SO THE BEAUTY OF OUR FACILITY, THOUGH, YOU CAN BRING YOUR SWIM TEAM IN AND YOU CAN TAKE OVER THE 12, THE 12 LANE POOL.
AND WE HAVE THAT WHOLE OTHER VESSEL WITH THE TWO 20 FOOT SLIDES, WHICH ARE GOING TO BE AWESOME, RIGHT? WITH THE RESISTANCE CHANNEL, WHICH IS JUST FUN.
IT'S KIND OF LIKE A LAZY RIVER TWO, RIGHT? RIGHT. WITH THE SPLASH PAD.
AND THERE'S 5 OR 6 SWIM LANES IN THERE AND IN THE PLAY POOL FOR FORCE, AND THERE'S FOUR SWIM LANES IF SOMEBODY WANTS TO LAP SWIMMING SO WE CAN HAVE A SWIM MEET IN THAT COMPETITIVE POOL WITH THE 12 LANES AND KEEP THE WHOLE OTHER HALF OF THE AQUATIC AREA OPEN FOR CITIZENS TO ENJOY.
WHICH IS ANOTHER REALLY WONDERFUL THING ABOUT HAVING THE TWO-VESSEL FACILITY.
YEAH, NO, WHAT I WAS THINKING IS MARLINS HAVE BEEN HERE FOR, YOU KNOW.
[00:50:01]
OH, YEAH. FOREVER.AND OF COURSE, YOU KNOW, THEY WOULD BE THE GROUP THAT WE WOULD CONSIDER FIRST.
BUT THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN NOW THERE'S THE SHARKS THAT COME TO TOWN.
YEAH. AND THEY'RE LIKE, WE WANT THE SAME DEAL.
WE HAVE THE SAME. I WANT TO SEE THE SHARKS YET.
BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED WITH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL.
YEAH. I'M SURE THE SHARKS ARE COMING.
YEAH. NO, BUT WE, YOU KNOW, MAKING SURE.
I MEAN, HEY, INTEGRITY AND RELATIONSHIPS IS A PRIORITY, RIGHT? KIND OF A [INAUDIBLE] EL RANCHO LAKE.
YOU KNOW, WE WEREN'T GOING TO NOT DO.
SO WE HAVE COME UP WITH AN AGREEMENT FOR A LONG TIME.
YEAH. YEAH. AND I THINK THEY'RE REAL HAPPY WITH IT.
WELL THEY'RE MORE THEY'RE EXCITED ABOUT GETTING IN THERE, I'M SURE.
I'M A LITTLE. SOMEBODY ELSE HAVE A HAND? GO AHEAD.
I WAS VERY EXCITED TO SEE THE RATES BECAUSE I KNOW 3 OR 4 YEARS AGO, WHEN WE FIRST STARTED TALKING ABOUT THIS, WE WANTED TO KEEP THE RATES LOW.
SO YOU'VE DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB, I THINK, ON THAT.
VETERANS, IS THERE JUST FOOD FOR THOUGHT? VETERANS PRICE FOR OUR VETS.
I MEAN THIS WOULD BE THROUGH YOU, BUT NPOA AND THE POLICE NEXT DOOR.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE THEM HAVE A TIME TO GO OVER AT NO CHARGE, OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT AND TO USE OUR FACILITIES AT NO CHARGE? I SAY THAT I KNOW THEY HAVE A GYM.
ALWAYS THINKING OF THAT AS A BENEFIT.
OH, AND IF YOU'RE A POLICE OFFICER, YOU CAN.
I JUST TALKED ABOUT THE OFFICERS, NOT THE FAMILY.
THINK ABOUT THAT. TO ALLOW THEM TO USE THE FACILITY, PART OF THE ELEVATE, PART OF THE, YOU KNOW, KEEPING IN SHAPE WHICH I AM CERTAINLY NOT.
BUT SO THOSE ARE THE TWO THINGS I WAS THINKING OF.
YOU KNOW, I THINK OF FIRST RESPONDERS.
BUT TO KEEP IT MORE LOCALIZED, IF YOU CAN.
WELL, YEAH, THAT'S SOMETHING ELSE.
IS PATTY JUST MENTIONED ABOUT TOWN EMPLOYEES? MR. MAYOR, VICE MAYOR COUNCILMEMBER ZIEGLER.
YES. THAT IS SOMETHING WE'VE TALKED ABOUT MAKING THIS AVAILABLE TO OUR EMPLOYEES FOR FREE.
WE DID WANT THE FEEDBACK FROM THE COUNCIL BEFORE WE BROUGHT ANYTHING LIKE THAT FORWARD.
BUT IT IS SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE TALKED ABOUT.
IT'S SOMETHING WE'RE DEFERRING TO THE COUNCIL IN TERMS OF WHAT YOUR PREFERENCE WOULD BE.
AND FAMILIES WOULD STILL HAVE TO PAY.
SO IF YOU'RE IF YOU HAVE A SPOUSE, YOUR SPOUSE WOULD HAVE TO PAY YOU.
DO YOU HAVE A SPOUSE AND FIVE KIDS? YOU KNOW SO.
BUT FOR THE EMPLOYEE THEMSELVES, THEY'D BE ABLE TO UTILIZE THE FACILITIES.
AND THAT WAS OUR INITIAL THOUGHTS AND DISCUSSIONS.
IT WASN'T SOMETHING WE PUT IN THE PRESENTATION, BECAUSE WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE SOMETHING THAT CAME UP IN THE DISCUSSION HERE, AND WE'RE JUST HOPING FOR SOME FEEDBACK FROM THE COUNCIL ON WHAT YOUR PREFERENCE WOULD BE THERE.
YEAH, I WOULD LIKE TO, ALONG WITH COUNCIL EMPLOYEES AGAIN ON THE BENEFIT BRINGING PEOPLE IN.
OKAY. AND SO THAT WOULD OF COURSE WOULD BE OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT.
AND THEN AGAIN, I DON'T KNOW, I'M THINKING OF VETERANS OR BLUE.
TOWN. WE HAVE A VETERANS MEMORIAL CEMETERY.
WE HAVE A FOUNDATION AND WE HAVE A LOT OF VETERANS IN THE TOWN OF MARANA.
A LOT OF US ARE ON FIXED INCOMES.
SO THAT JUST WAS ANOTHER CATEGORY I WANTED TO INTRODUCE.
BUT OF COURSE, ALONG WITH EVERYBODY ELSE'S OPINION.
[00:55:01]
BUT I'D LIKE TO SEE IF WE COULD DO SOMETHING FOR THE VETERANS.MAYOR, VICE MAYOR, COUNCILMEMBER ZIEGLER, IS THERE A LIKE A REDUCED RATE THAT YOU'RE THINKING? I KNOW IN A LOT OF PLACES THAT GIVE VETERANS DISCOUNTS.
IT'S TOUGH THAT YOU GUYS MAKE ALL THAT MONEY.
SO I'M JUST GOING TO TELL MINE.
SO IT WASN'T SOMETHING THAT WE THOUGHT ABOUT, TO BE QUITE CANDID.
IT WASN'T SOMETHING WE THOUGHT ABOUT.
IT COULD BE A VETERANS DAY, YOU KNOW, IF VETERANS WANT TO COME A CERTAIN DAY.
IT COULD BE OR HOURS OR SOMETHING, OR.
I REALLY DIDN'T THINK THAT I THOUGHT ABOUT IT.
BUT, YOU KNOW, IF IT'S JUST A REDUCED RATE OFF OF OUR DAY PASS OR SOMETHING WHATEVER IS, YOU KNOW, GOING TO LOOK TO YOU GUYS BECAUSE YOU'RE THE BRANDON I'M LOOKING AT YOU BECAUSE IF YOU HELPED ORO VALLEY AND THEIR LOVELY AQUATIC CENTER SOMETHING JUST TO SAY, HEY, WE APPRECIATE YOU.
AND ON THESE DAYS OR THIS DAY, IT'S SOMETHING VETERANS HALF A DAY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
NOTHING TO THAT YOU HAVE TO DO TOO MUCH ADMINISTRATION ON.
SO, I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S A REDUCED RATE, TERRY.
YEAH. SO MAYBE MAKING IT INCLUSIVE.
THE VETERAN SLASH SENIOR OR SENIOR SLASH VETERAN COST.
YEAH. YEAH. I'M OPEN TO WHATEVER.
I JUST LIKE IT WOULD BE A GREAT WAY TO RECOGNIZE THEM.
THIS IS GREAT. THIS IS WHY WE'RE HERE.
I HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF A CONCERN.
THEY WANT TO LEASE ALL THREE OF THE BASKETBALL COURTS.
IS THERE? I, I DON'T CARE IF IT'S A SCHOOL OR A CHURCH LOCALLY.
YEAH. OR VETERANS GROUP OR WHATEVER.
IS THERE A WAY TO KEEP? BECAUSE THIS IS GOING TO BE A REALLY NICE FACILITY AND IT'S GOING TO HAVE ALL KINDS OF AMENITIES, IS I DON'T WANT SOMEBODY ALL OF A SUDDEN TAKING ADVANTAGE OF US, YOU KNOW, THAT THEY WANT TO BRING IN THESE BIG, HUGE GROUPS AND MAKE THEY MAKE A BUNDLE OF MONEY.
AND I DON'T THINK THAT'S REALLY WHAT WE WANT TO DO.
YOU HAD SAID THAT YOU KNOW, SOMEBODY GETS CRAZY ABOUT THAT, THAT YOU COULD CONTROL IT SOME WAY.
YEAH. MAYOR HONEA VICE MAYOR POST COUNCIL MEMBER.
WE HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE WITH THAT.
IN BALL FIELDS. PEOPLE ALREADY DO IT.
AND WE'RE PRETTY AGGRESSIVE IN MONITORING IT.
WE'RE ALWAYS GOING TO TRY TO COME IN AND TRY TO TAKE OVER THE FOUR FIELD COMPLEX AT HAHN AND IN CHARGE TEAMS A LOT OF MONEY AND WALK AWAY FROM THE WEEKEND WITH TEN GRAND IN THEIR POCKET AND OUR CITIZENS COULDN'T USE THE FIELD.
LOCAL LITTLE LEAGUE. I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT.
IF IT'S HELPING OUR CHILDREN AND OUR CITIZENS, BUT PRIVATE SECTOR TYPE THINGS.
AND I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO WANT TO USE IT.
ANOTHER THING I WANTED TO ASK YOU ABOUT IS THE COMMUNITY ROOM.
YOU KNOW, PEOPLE WILL RENT IT FOR WEDDINGS, FUNERALS, WHATEVER, WHATEVER.
I THINK IT'S A PRETTY REASONABLE COST IF THOSE ROOMS ARE RENTED OUT AND ALL THE OTHER FOLKS CANNOT USE THAT COMMUNITY ROOM.
IS THAT CORRECT? SO IF YOU HAVE KIDS THAT COME OVER HERE EVERY DAY AFTER SCHOOL FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS, WHICH IS KIND OF WHEN WE WERE TALKING TO GOODYEAR, THEY HAD A LOT OF THAT KIND OF STUFF.
ALL OF A SUDDEN SOMEBODY WANTS TO RENT IT.
THOSE KIDS DON'T HAVE ANYWHERE TO GO.
THEN THAT'S A SEPARATE MIXING IT UP.
MR. MAYOR, THAT'S A SEPARATE ROOM.
THE COMMUNITY. IT'S THE COMMUNITY ROOM.
THE COMMUNITY ROOM IS SEPARATE FROM THE TEAM ROOM.
SO THERE'S A TEAM ROOM THAT'S JUST FOR THE KIDS.
I THOUGHT THE WHOLE COMMUNITY ROOM WAS FREE AS LONG AS NOBODY WAS RENTING IT.
[01:00:02]
YEAH. NO, SIR. SO THE.THE TEA ROOM IS RIGHT OFF THE LOBBY, AND THAT'S ACCESSIBLE TO ANYBODY WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY.
THE COMMUNITY ROOM IS ACTUALLY IN A SEPARATE PART OF THE BUILDING, AND THAT'S FOR ACTUAL VENUES.
OKAY. OKAY. THEN I JUST MISUNDERSTOOD.
YEAH. IN MAYOR THAT'S GOING TO BE RIGHT OFF THE FRONT DOOR.
SO KID COMES IN FROM THE MIDDLE SCHOOL OR WHEREVER MIGHT BE, YOU KNOW, IT'S FREE.
AND I'M HOPING THE KIDS FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL MAKE THEIR WAY OVER, TOO.
BUT THAT CAN ACCOMMODATE A LOT OF YOUTH FREE.
AND, MAYOR, IF I MAY, THE COMMUNITY ROOM WILL ALSO USE FOR OUR OWN PROGRAMING.
SO, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE SUMMER PROGRAMS AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR THE KIDS.
THAT'S A SPACE THAT WE'LL USE TO ACCOMMODATE THAT PROGRAM.
YEAH, I THINK THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT.
OUR PROGRAMING IS GOING TO COME FIRST.
YOU KNOW, YOU ANSWERED MY QUESTION.
BUT I MEAN, IT'S WE'RE GOING TO CONCENTRATE ON OUR PEOPLE, NOT JUST THE TOWN, BUT OUR SURROUNDING AREA THAT WE'RE GOING TO CONSIDER. LOCALS? YEP. PRIORITY ONE.
RIGHT. AND IF THESE OTHERS WORK OUT, THEN FINE.
WELL, 85653 INCLUDES EVERYTHING UP TO MISSILE BASE IN PINAL COUNTY, EL ORO, GREEN ACRES, THE ENTIRE VALLEY THERE, ABOUT AS MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE AS THERE ARE IN THE TOWN, YOU KNOW, AND I UNDERSTAND THEY SHOP HERE.
THEY HAVE MARANA ADDRESSES AND STUFF.
I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT.
I JUST IT SEEMS LIKE YOU'RE CONCENTRATING ON OUR PEOPLE COME FIRST, AND THEN IF THERE'S AT LEAST OPPORTUNITIES OR RENTAL OPPORTUNITIES AT SECOND.
THE OTHER THING I WANT TO KNOW IS ANY ALCOHOL ALLOWED IN THIS FACILITY.
THERE WILL BE IN THE COMMUNITY ROOM.
AND, YOU KNOW, IF SOMEBODY HAS A WEDDING THERE.
YEAH. GO. GO AHEAD. I DON'T DRINK.
YOU GUYS GO AHEAD. YEAH, YEAH.
SO, YEAH. NO ALCOHOL, BEER AND WINE AND NO GLASS CONTAINERS.
AND THAT'S A STANDARD COMMUNITY ROOM ONLY.
AND THEN YOU CAN'T TAKE IT OUT OF THE COMMUNITY ROOM.
CORRECT. YOU CAN TAKE IT ON TO THAT ADJOINING SPACE IN THE COURTYARD, BUT THAT'S ALL ENCLOSED.
AND THAT WILL BE THE ONLY PLACE IN THE BUILDING IT'S ALLOWED.
NO, THEY'D HAVE TO GET A PERMIT FOR IT.
CORRECT. WELL, I MEAN, FOR ME, A LOT OF TIMES IN BIG, MAKE THINGS LIKE THAT.
I MEAN, I, I DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM WITH IT AT ALL, BUT I UNDERSTAND IT.
WEDDINGS AND SOME OF THESE THINGS, YOU ALMOST HAVE TO BUT.
RIGHT. AND A COMMUNITY ROOM ONLY.
COMMUNITY ROOM ONLY. AND AS A PART OF OUR EVENT PROCESS, WHEN YOU'RE COMPLETING AN APPLICATION FOR THIS TYPE OF RENTAL, OUR STAFF WILL HAVE IT AND OTHER TOWN STAFF WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO EVALUATE THE RENTAL AND MAKE REQUIREMENTS OF WHETHER THEY'RE, YOU KNOW, BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE, THE ACTIVITY, WHETHER THERE MIGHT NEED TO BE SECURITY PROVIDED.
SO WE'LL HAVE A LOT OF INPUT IN WHAT'S ALLOWED IN THAT FACILITY.
SO WE HAVE, I THINK, SEVEN IN THE TOWN OF MARANA, IF I REMEMBER.
SO WE'RE GOING TO INCLUDE THE SEVEN.
YEAH. WE'LL PRESENT, YOU KNOW, WE'LL PRESENT THE ZIP CODES.
YEAH, I JUST HAVE TO LOOK AT THAT THROUGH THE CAMPAIGN.
I MEAN, WE GOT TO MAKE SURE WE GOT IT RIGHT.
THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE FROM THE RESIDENCE BACK THERE.
I WONDER IF THEY HAD ANY QUESTIONS, IF THAT WOULD BE ALL RIGHT.
EVENTUALLY I'LL ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS I HAD.
A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS. ARE THERE GOING TO BE LOCKERS AND DRESSING ROOMS FOR THE SPIDERS? OKAY, GOOD.
[01:05:08]
I LOVE THIS FACILITY.[INAUDIBLE] WE HAVE A NEW PLACE TO GO.
I DO NOT LIKE INDOOR POOLS AND THAT'S WHAT I HAVE.
BUT IS THAT REIMBURSABLE TO THE CITY? DID YOU GET A REIMBURSEMENT FROM MEDICARE OR THE SUPPLEMENT.
I DON'T LIKE DOING THINGS FOR FREE.
I WANT YOU GUYS TO MAKE MONEY.
WELL, YOU KNOW, THE THING OF IT IS, I MEAN, IF YOU'RE A SENIOR BETWEEN THE INSURANCE COMPANIES REIMBURSEMENT YOU KNOW, AND THEN IF YOU'RE A MEMBER OF OUR CLUB, YOU CAN USE IT TO IF YOU PAY $40 A YEAR TO BELONG TO WHAT AT OUR CENTER, $40 A YEAR. HOWEVER, YOU CAN USE OUR FACILITY FREE OF CHARGE TWO DAYS A WEEK.
OR YOU CAN DO SILVERSNEAKERS OR ONE OR THE OTHER.
AND THERE'S MULTIPLE PROGRAMS, AS BRENDAN SAID.
BRENDAN HAS A FAIR AMOUNT OF EXPERIENCE WITH THAT.
COULD YOU SPEAK TO THAT A LITTLE BIT? YEAH. A QUICK ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS YES, THE TOWN DOES GET REIMBURSED FOR THAT.
SO TYPICALLY IT'S PER PER USE.
SO, YOU KNOW, JUST LIKE WHEN YOU ATTEND LA FITNESS YOU'RE SCANNING IN.
SO IT WOULD BE OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO REPORT THOSE USAGE NUMBERS BACK TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY.
AND THEN THE TOWN STILL GETS REIMBURSED FOR THAT.
AND AGAIN, OF COURSE, YOU GET TO ACCESS THE FACILITY OUTDOORS FOR FREE.
WHAT'S THE LENGTH OF THE POOL? A COMPETITION POOL IS A 25 YARD POOL.
25. ALMOST A HALF, ALMOST 25M, WHICH IS, YOU KNOW, HALF OLYMPIC.
JUST MY INPUT THAT I THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA THAT EMPLOYEES GOT FREE USE OF THE FACILITY.
NOT THE FAMILIES, BUT THE EMPLOYEES.
THANK YOU. SO, DOES THE COUNCIL GET, LIKE, A WET BAR OR SOMETHING? ONLY THE COMMUNITY ROOM.
AND WE'LL HOLD COUNCIL MEETINGS IN THE COMMUNITY ROOM ONCE A QUARTER.
COUNCIL. FOYE, A VETERAN, A SENIOR.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY ME TO USE IT.
YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE MONEY. THAT'S WHAT I LIKE.
WE USED TO HAVE TOWN HOLIDAY PARTIES AND THE IDEA THAT WE HAVE SOMEWHERE WHERE WE COULD THE COMMUNITY ROOM HAVE, YOU KNOW, CELEBRATION WITH ALL OUR EMPLOYEES.
KIND OF MAKES ME EXCITED ABOUT THAT, BEING ABLE TO DO THOSE THINGS AGAIN.
COUNCILMEMBER COMERFORD. WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR APPLICATION.
IF THERE'S THREE PEOPLE IN THE FAMILY OR THERE'S TEN PEOPLE IN THE FAMILY.
FAMILY IS FAMILY BECAUSE I KNOW WHEN GOODYEAR WAS GOING TO OPEN WHEN THEY OPENED A FEW YEARS AGO.
THEY HAD FAMILIES, TWO ADULTS, TWO CHILDREN, AND THEN $600.
AND THEN THE NEXT YOUTH, NEXT CHILD WOULD BE $200.
SO FOR THE THIRD CHILD, YOU'RE AT $800.
AND THEN THE FOURTH CHILD, YOU KNOW, WHICH WE THOUGHT, NO, NO, NO.
AND, YOU KNOW, ONCE THE CHILD HITS 18, IT'S DIFFERENT.
YOU KNOW, THEN THE CHILD IS, YOU KNOW, NO LONGER, YOU KNOW, ON THAT PAYROLL, SO TO SPEAK.
I MEAN, THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN. BUT, YOU KNOW, YOU THINK OF IT, RIGHT? YEAH, I KNOW, I KNOW, I GOT EXPERIENCE IN THAT.
I DON'T KNOW WHERE THAT CAME FROM.
I THINK ABOUT A LOT OF SINGLE PARENTS, TOO.
AND I MEAN, THIS OPENS UP SO MANY DOORS FOR THEM.
WHERE WAIT A MINUTE, I CAN ACTUALLY GO TO A GYM AND HAVE SOMEBODY WATCH MY LITTLE ONE WHERE I CAN ACTUALLY PARTICIPATE. I MEAN, THOSE ARE THINGS THAT ARE JUST, I MEAN, YOU TRY TO FIND A BABYSITTER TODAY FOR $4 AN HOUR.
AND I THINK TO COUNCIL MEMBER MARTINO IS THE QUALITY OF THE STAFF.
YOU KNOW WHO'S WATCHING THOSE KIDS? AND WE GOT TO KEEP A VERY HIGH STANDARD AS FAR AS WHO WE'RE BRINGING ON THE TEAM.
YEAH, BUT WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY.
MR. MAYOR, VICE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF COUNCIL, I THINK WHAT I'M HEARING FROM YOU, I HOPE, IS THAT EVERYONE IS COMFORTABLE WITH THE PRESENTATION THAT WAS MADE AND THE RECOMMENDATIONS IN TERMS OF THE FEES AND THE FEE STRUCTURE AND THE FORCE THAT'S RECOMMENDED.
[01:10:07]
YES. YEAH. YEAH.AND THEN WHEN WE CONSIDER THE.
VETERANS AND THEN FREE FOR THE EMPLOYEES.
AND I THINK THAT ONE, IT SEEMS LIKE, OKAY, UNLESS THERE'S A DIFFERENT DIRECTION FROM THE COUNCIL.
NO. OKAY. DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING IN OPPOSITION TO THAT.
YEAH. EVERYBODY GOOD WITH THAT? YEAH. OKAY.
[ EXECUTIVE SESSIONS Pursuant to A.R.S. § 38-431.03, the Town Council may vote to go into executive session, which will not be open to the public, to discuss certain matters.]
WE NEED A SHORT EXECUTIVE SESSION.SO WE HAVE A MOTION TO DO AN EXECUTIVE SESSION.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS. MOTION TO ADJOURN. SO MOVED.
SECOND. ALL IN FAVOR? AYE. WE'RE ADJOURNED.
SO WE'RE DONE. I MEAN, I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S LEGAL BUT [INAUDIBLE]
